The school opened as James Curran Junior High School on Tuesday, September 6, 1960 for 7th and 8th grade students. The name was changed in 1997 to James Curran Middle School with the addition of 6th graders to the campus. We are exciited to recognize one of the pioneers of Bakersfield, Mr. James Curran, as we celebrate 50 years of the school being open to the students of the Bakersfield City School District. For more information on the 50th Anniversary Celebration, please contact Jason Brannen, school Principal at 631-5240.
Curran Middle School Renovation Project
The Curran Middle School Measure "G" Bond Renovation Project is now entering the final stages. The remaining sidewalk and pavement work will be completed in the coming days and the campus will be ready for the start of the academic year. The main office, cafeteria, and all of the classrooms have been renovated and are ready for another great year of learning. New security fencing, lighting, and cameras have also been added to keep the campus safe and secure while students are in and out of school. Additional landscaping will be added along the north side of the campus to enhance the grounds and new play equipment will also be added to keep the students busy during break time. We are very proud of the way the renovated campus looks. We are working hard to keep it in "tip-top" shape for many years to come.

Committees were formed to study the schools profile data. The needs of our students, the demographics and the achievement levels were examined and analyzed. a questionnaire was formulated to address the ekkey issues. The result of the survey helped us identify our belief an mission.
The Curran Middle School Instructional Leadership Team further studied current educational issues and the learning process. In addition, district personnel were also enlisted for consultation. Findings were reviewed and discussed in the process if defining our belief and mission.
Preliminary mission statements were presented to the faculty, student representatives, and parents for review and comment. Feedback was collected and modificatioins were made based on the suggestions received.
